I don't understand the whole uber-gamer elitism around permadeath. But there is so much stuff out there that is completely unfair, game isn't done yet, so there is plenty of time for way more unfair stuff to be added.ĭon't get me wrong about modding and using wishes and using the debug. So this is technically Roleplay and not Classic mode. This was made by one of the devs in case you are concerned about quality. I still die (and actually let the run die), and I am usually totally at fault. Probably really crap opinion on my part, but meh, I mod my game. I want to play this game, but it seems like it doesn't want to be played.Įdit: I can't reply to every post here, but I appreciate all of your help and advice quite a bit, I hope I can get more out of this game with it than I was failing to get out of it alone! Is there something I'm missing here? Some hereto unknown mechanic to stop espers from killing me from the other side of the map or predicting when a rifle turret is going to be sitting in the middle of an open field just out of sight? The game gives very little to no guidance on where to go and then severely punishes aimlessly exploring by filling randomly generated areas with zero warning deathtraps. The number of times I've been slaughtered by a Disciple of the Sightless Way using Sunder Mind from far out of vision or range (I've lost three good runs this way alone) or reading "A lead slug whizzes past you" followed one turn later by "You have died" an hour into a run is beyond frustrating. The game is beautiful, it's surface level mechanics just the right level of depth without being entirely incomprehensible to get into, but the game is completely unplayable because actually getting to engage with those mechanics is predicated on not running into the myriad of situations in which the game simply says "lol, die." I've never played a game that made me impressed and disappointed in such equal measure.
